If you are lucky enough to be visiting Sacramento during the fall and holiday season, then you are in for a real treat!
This really is the “most wonderful time of year”… with colors of fall exploding throughout the parks and downtown, it’s hard not to get into the holiday spirit. Although, if you have young children, I guarantee the beauty of the fall is NOT going to keep them entertained and a simple walk in the park won’t suffice. Sacramento has many activities that are fun for the whole family and will likely put you in the holiday spirit.
November 5th, Sacramento’s only outdoor Ice Skating Rink opens for the season. The rink is located at 7th and K streets, across from the Westfield Downtown Plaza, and walking distance from the State Capitol, Old Sacramento and many local restaurants and coffee shops.
Last year my family and I enjoyed an evening out at the Ice Skating Rink. Although my children were too young to actually get on the ice, they enjoyed watching everyone else on skates and listening to holiday music being played over the loud speakers. It was a perfect excuse to enjoy some hot chocolate (or a peppermint mocha for mama), sing some holiday carols (quietly of course) and begin to get in the holiday spirit. Since the rink is located across from the shopping plaza… it’s also makes for a perfect quick trip to get some of those Christmas lists marked off.
The Ice Skating Rink is open Sunday- Thursday noon- 8pm and Friday-Saturday 10am-10pm.
On Saturday mornings you can go early and sign up for skating lessons for the whole family and then enjoy the early morning skating session with the public.
