Family Fun Holiday Events in Sacramento

December 1, 2010
There is no doubt that the best part of the holidays is watching your children fill with amazement and joy at all the wonders of the season. I have to admit…I am a mom who goes overboard this time of year. Not with gifts and presents, but with excitement and activities. Our calendar is always full mid-November through mid- January. Whether it’s with visits to see Santa, baking cookies, light festivities, snow trips, etc. etc. There is always something fun going on in the Sacramento area this time of year.

Here is just a peek of some of the events that are on our family calendar… and throughout the month I’ll be updating more activities that you can do with your family if you are in Sacramento during this festive season.

Throughout the month of December you can celebrate the holidays with festive music with live bands at the California Capitol Museum, (11th and L Streets, Sacramento). This is a free event, and you should check the website for times throughout the month.

Kids of all ages enjoy visiting Fairytale Town (3901 Landpark Dr, Sacramento)- where imaginations run wild among the nursery rhymes and storybooks that are brought to life. On Dec. 3rd & 4th the family can enjoy watching the park transform into a winter wonderland…full of live entertainment, hands-on activities for the kids and even take pictures with Father Christmas.

On Saturday, December 4th, the family can all enjoy a Breakfast with Santa at the West Sacramento Community Center (1075 West Capitol Ave., West Sacramento). The kids can decorate pancakes, participate in crafts with Mrs. Claus and Santa himself will be there taking pictures. Register online to ensure seating!

Visit Town & Country Village (Corner of Fulton and Marconi Avenue, Sacramento) on Saturday, Dec. 4th for an Old Fashioned Victorian Christmas. Enjoy crafts, chocolate-dipping and decorating gingerbread men (yum!) and photos with Santa! Plenty of carolers will be singing sweet Christmas tunes while everyone enjoys hot cocoa at this Free Family fun event!

Visiting the Governors Mansion   is an extraordinary treat for visitors anytime of the year. But on Friday, Dec. 10th, you can enjoy live holiday music and captivating stories. Docents in period costumers will lead visitors around the decorated mansion and Mr.& Mrs. Claus will be making a special appearance to take holiday photos with the children.  Located at 16th and H streets in downtown Sacramento.

And of course, the holiday season wouldn’t be complete without taking the family to The Sacramento Theatre Company to see the classic “A Christmas Carol”. Showing Dec 1st– 26th at the Wells Fargo Pavilion in downtown Sacramento. Or to the Sacramento Ballet to see “The Nutcracker” where

the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform Dec. 7-23rd.

All of the above activities are great for kids of all ages, however, this is obviously geared for the older children and adults. My kiddos are too young to enjoy this classic (they can barely make it through Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer), but I can guarantee in a few years, they will be dressing up in their “Sunday bests” and enjoying this classic along with everyone else.

Whatever your plans are during this holiday season, there is something going on all month long in Sacramento to help get you into the holiday spirit.

Have fun and Happy Holidays!
