July is National Ice Cream Month and to celebrate we are giving away Vic’s Ice Cream!!!

Here‘s an “Aha“ Moment for those of you who were not aware that July is National Ice Cream Month…In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. He recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food that is enjoyed by a full 90% of the nation’s population. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t know of a kid (or an adult) who doesn’t love ice cream… and especially on a hot summer day!
Ice cream is a staple summertime treat for kids of all ages. And for long time Sacramento residents, Vic’s Ice Cream has been a household name for several generations.
Located in beautiful Land Park, Vic’s has been a family business since 1947 and has been serving some of the best ice cream in Sacramento ever since!
Ice Cream isn’t their only forte, they serve up lunch items and according to some regulars, the hot dog sandwich is fantastic!

We visited this famous ice cream shop after a long morning at Fairytale Town and William Land Park with the kids…and ice cream was exactly what we needed to cool us off from the Sacramento heat.
The kids ordered “kiddie cones”, which are big enough to share (although- there really is NO sharing when it comes to ice cream and a 3 year old). I had to splurge on a chocolate malt (my own personal childhood favorite). The shop is very cute… black and white décor, spinning stools, booths… the typical 50’s Ice Cream shop look. Very kid friendly and the staff was patient and helpful with the little ones.
Because of their popularity, the lunch hours can get quite busy and you may notice a bit longer of a line at that time… but well worth the wait!

And since the hot summer days are upon us, we want to help everyone cool off and enjoy some sweet treats as well.
Just comment on this article with your favorite ice cream flavor and/or favorite Vic’s memory…. 8 lucky winners will get a pack of 5 Free Kiddie Cones to enjoy this summer. Drawing will be held on Friday, July 15th. Good luck and enjoy!
