5 Spring Weekend Family Activities

March 23, 2012

By Alyssa Green

Enjoy the first official weekend of spring doing some fun things with your kids!  We hope it’s not going to rain…but just in case, we have included some great indoor activities.  Enjoy!

1) Hoppin’ into Spring at the Discovery Science and Space Center – Celebrate the first weekend of spring learning about the museum’s froggy friends in the classroom and the lab. Make a souvenir frog mask with tooter. Visit Bud, the Giant African Bullfrog, at Creature Feature.  3/24-25, 12:30-4pm.

2) Twilight Open Cockpit at the California Aerospace Museum – Come explore, climb into, or imagine what it would be like to soar through the skies in several of the many aircrafts on the ramp. Experience historic planes and displays representing over eight decades of aviation history. Swabbies will be on hand selling their famous tacos, and hot dogs for the kids, as well as beer and wine. Don’t miss this chance to explore with us! 3/24, 4-8pm.

3) Beaks, Claws & Jaws at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Discover and learn about the unique adaptations of birds, mammals, and reptiles. Participate in games and activities and get a close-up look at some of the Nature Center’s animals.  3/24 at 10:30am.

4) Baby Loves Disco “We are family” Tour at H &M, Westfield Galleria – Bring your babies and toddlers to the hottest dance party around for kids and families–the Baby Loves Disco’s “We Are Family” Tour presented by H&M (you’ll even get the chance to win some great H&M gear!). Grab a tattoo, get a mini manicure, make a sock puppet or a family tree, and then grab your egg shakers! There will be prizes and more at this great family event!  3/24, 1pm.

5) The Great Train Robbery  on the Sacramento River Train – Take a ride back to the Old West. This 3.5-hour trip departing from West Sacramento includes a relaxing train ride over the Fremont Trestle and through some pretty countryside.

While riding along, however, keep an eye for outlaws who tend to hide out along the tracks. Fortunately, the Marshall is on board to keep things safe. More often than not, he has to teach those outlaws a lesson!  3/24, 10am.
