14th Annual East Sacramento Garden Tour is this weekend- a perfect way to spend Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is this weekend. And if you haven’t made your brunch plans yet (or you just want to do something a bit less predictable on Mothers day), then do what every mom enjoys…. Take a stroll through the garden (or many gardens!).
This weekend marks the 14th annual David Lubin Elementary school Garden Tour in East Sacramento. And if you are a Sacramento native, then you know that the homes in East Sacramento (the “fab 40’s”) are absolutely gorgeous and a peek into their backyards and viewing the gardens is an absolute treat.
My mom and I have been visiting these gardens for the past 5 years, and each year is something different. I can never get tired of viewing these lush landscapes and getting ideas for my own “dream garden”. But most of all- it’s a beautiful way to spend the Mothers day morning with my mom.

The tour begins at David Lubin Elementary school in East Sacramento (located at M Street). And I shouldn’t say that it “starts” at the school, since it is a self- paced tour, however I always start there and browse through the boutique that is set up with some fabulous vendors.
Tickets for the annual garden tour are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event (Saturday and Sunday, May 12th and 13th from 10am-4pm). If you would like to treat mom to a relaxing lunch, the Sutter Lawn Tennis Club will be hosting a tea garden menu that is catered by Vanilla Bean Bistro. The buffet will be served from 11am-2pm on both days at an additional $15. Tickets are also available online.

I highly recommend the garden tour- especially if you love landscaping of any kind. Also, another recommendation if you decide to not attend the tour, but still want to enjoy gardens with your mom is to head out to Loomis (about 30 minutes north of Sacramento) and check out High Hand Nursery for lunch (reservations are highly recommended) and/or Hortons Iris Garden.

So if you are trying to think of something special to do with mom this weekend (and haven’t quite made those Sunday brunch plans yet), I hope this helps in giving you a few ideas. Either way, I hope you have a day full of beauty, fun and love.
