If you have been following our blog over the past year, I’m sure you have seen changes. One thing to keep in mind, is that we are always updating pages and adding events to help keep everyone informed on what’s going on in our wonderful city.
Every month you will find activities and fun events to keep you and your children busy and exploring Sacramento.
One of the things that I love the most about our city is the plethora of performing arts we have. Now I know that most people from out of town wouldn’t necessarily think of Sacramento as being known for their theatre and arts. We can’t compare to New York’s Broadway or London’s West End, however, we can boast to have several fantastic theatre venues as well as having one of the largest collection of community theaters in California.
Some of these community theatres include the 24th Street Theatre, Kookabura Productions, Big Idea Theatre, Sutter Street Theatre,B Street Theatre, Chautauqua Playhouse and many more.
Each month we update the “upcoming shows” for several theaters. This month, I can tell you that I’m excited to take my daughter to see “The Princess and the Frog” at Runaway Stage Productions (24th Street Theatre). And I know that she is counting down the days until she’s old enough to join in one of their Youth Musical Theatre Workshops (ages 6-18). This month the workshop is for WILLY WONKA JR.that is playing May 29-31.
Also coming to Sacramento this month is WICKED. From May 23- June 17th, you can see the Tony Award nominated musical, written by Winnie Holzman and with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, is adored by millions of theatre patrons for its ingenious depiction of everything that transpired in Oz and Munchkinland years before Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz stepped in and battled the Wicked Witch, its fantasy filled set design and whimsical characters donning colorful costumes, and songs and musical numbers loved by fans from the first note, especially its most popular song, “Defying Gravity”.
(I’m hoping the hubby remember to get tickets to see this musical….and if not, then I guess I’ll be calling up some of my girlfriends since I’ve heard that this show is amazing!)
Just keep checking our Theatre and Arts page to stay up to date with the local theatre happenings.
