6/1-6/3 – Hansel and Gretel at the B Street Theater – Hansel & Gretel, adapted by Jerry Montoya, is based on the classic fable by the Brothers Grimm. What happens when a witch doesn’t want to be a witch anymore? A fun retelling of this classic Brothers Grimm fable complete with music, an evil witch, and a gingerbread house. B Street Theatre’s Family Series brings children closer than ever to live performance, engaging their hearts and minds in a way that few other mediums can.
6/2 – Pops in the Park: The Nibblers at McKinley Park -Pops in the Park summer concert series, featuring The Nibblers will be at McKinley Park. Food and beverages will be for sale, and all proceeds benefit neighborhood and park improvements.
The Nibblers are a seven piece throwback to the grimy funk and soul of yore using a tasty mix of obscure retro favorites and original music to fill the dance floors. The members of The Nibblers have played in venues from New York to San Francisco and now are pooling their skills to shake selected California venues.
6/2 – Scooters Clean Air Fun Fest at Fremont Park – Please join in kicking off this Spare The Air season with your favorite mascot, Scooter the Spare The Air dog. Scooter will be hosting the third annual Scooter’s Clean Air Fun Fest.
Everyone is invited to this free family-friendly event to enjoy live music, entertainment, a surprise special guest performance, and learn about ways they can reduce air pollution. Numerous local vendors will also attend to share their services. The first 300 visitors will receive goodie bags, and there will be raffles and prize giveaways throughout the day.
6/2 – Safety Day 2012 at Valley Hi Community Park – Ridgestone Apartments in collaboration with Valley Hi Covenant Church will be hosting the Valley Hi Community’s annual Safety Day 2012. This event is intended to increase access to safety information and resources to residents in the Valley Hi community.
Festivities will include representation from local and governmental agencies, entertainment, and fun activities for the entire family!
6/2-6/3 – Carmichael Park Community Band Festival – The Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association presents the annual Carmichael Park Community Band Festival at Carmichael Park Amphitheater. This is one of the largest community band festivals in California for over 20 years. Included in this year’s line-up is the 59th Army National Guard Band “The Governor’s Own.” Bring the entire family, a picnic, lawn chairs, and enjoy a lovely afternoon of music under the shade trees!
6/3 – Fly By Butterfly at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – What is a pipevine swallowtail? Find out as you explore the life cycle of the butterfly and create your own coffee filter butterfly. Join a naturalist for a hike through the Nature Preserve to investigate the pipevine swallowtail’s world.
6/3 – Sac-Con: Sacramento Comic, Toy and Anime Show – The show features over 100 vendors tables as well as a small press/artists alley highlighting local amateur artists and self published comic book creators. Events include a charity auction benefiting local charities, cosplay costume contest, video game tournaments, art contest, and panels/workshops.
Special guests include voice actor Billy West (the voice of Ren and Stimpy, Doug, Futurama’s Fry, Bugs Bunny, and more), zombie artist Vince Locke and many more.
