Weekend Family Fun For June 15-17th

6/15 – Willy Wonka begins @ the Fair Oaks Ampitheater – Based on the book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka is a wonderful story of a boy and his adventures in a most magical Chocolate Factory. Songs are from the score of the 1971 movie (“The Candy Man,” “Pure Imagination,” & “Oompah Loompah”) with new songs added for this adaptation by Academy Award and Grammy winners Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley.

6/15 – Local Celebrity Basketball Game – Come watch Sacramento’s most popular and successful men get their hoops on at the Local Celebrity Basketball Game III! This family event features lots of entertainment including live bands, cheerleaders, the little ladies’ basketball game, & three point shooting contest.

6/15 – Sleepover Night with the River Cats – The Sacramento River Cats take on the Tacoma Rainiers in this baseball game. Eat, sleep, baseball…at Sleepover Night. Wear your PJs to the ballgame and snuggle with the River Cats for a night.  Also enjoy $1 hot dogs and $1 desserts with the family as part of Family Value Night. First 2,500 fans will recive a River Cats pillowcase.

Sleepover Night Ticket Package available. Camp out under the stars on the Raley Field grass with a ticket package that includes a Delta ticket to the River Cats game, a dinner voucher, the sleepover, and breakfast the next morning.

6/15 – Family Friday: Rainbow at the Crocker Art Museum – The Family Friday series kicks off with a rainbow theme. Celebrate the beautiful diversity of colors, art, and people. Children of all ages and their families are invited to blow iridescent bubbles, dance and play with rainbow-colored ribbons, draw with sidewalk chalk, and share their favorite colors. Picnic fare will be available for purchase from the Crocker Cafe by Supper Club.

6/15-16 – Sacramento Juneteenth Festival at William Land Park – Sacramento’s Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom Weekend includes Gospel Under the Stars concert on Friday night.  Saturday’s activities include a parade, talent show, live entertainment, a kids fishing derby, kids play area, food vendors and more.

6/16 – 3rd Annual Pinata Festival at Southside Park – The Pinata Festival is an annual event that was created to celebrate art, culture, and innovation through the design of piñatas. The day will include: music & entertainment, food & food trucks, free pinata workshops, sugar skull making area, art & vendor marketplace. Performances by: La Misa Negra, DJ Leydis, El Indio of World Hood, Agua de Beber Capoiera, Maquilli Tonatiuh Aztec Dancers.

6/16 – 14th Annual Family Safety and Health Expo at Safetyville, USA– The Family Safety & Health Expo is designed to give your family valuable information focused on health, safety, and youth recreation resources in the Sacramento region. Over 80 booths will be available with information and easy access. Over 2,500 people are expected to attend and participate in the activities.Entertainment will include a magic show by Trevor Wyatt. There will be giveaways, raffles, food, and live stage performances.

6/16 – Pops in the Park – Councilman Steve Cohn and the Pops in the Park Committee are pleased to present the annual Pops in the Park summer concert series, featuring The Q-Balls at East Portal Park. Food and beverages will be for sale, and all proceeds benefit neighborhood and park improvements.

The Q-Balls are a local band plays classic rock & roll from the ’60s to the ’80s. This charismatic group is ready to deliver rhythm, energy, and musical joy.

6/15 – Sensational Snakes at the Nature Center – Meet a resident snake up close and discover how these reptiles use their senses to survive. Enjoy a short stroll with a naturalist and learn how to be safe when viewing the reptiles who dwell in the Nature Preserve. All ages welcome.

6/16-17 – Luis Palau Festival at the Cal Expo – The Luis Palau Sacramento Festival is a FREE two-day event featuring a life-changing message of hope from evangelist Luis PalauLuis Palau and performances by Skillet, TobyMac, Lincoln Brewster, Phil Wickham, Thousand Foot Krutch and American Idol’s Mandisa! There will also be action sports demonstrations by BMX, FMX, and skateboarding pros, shows and a world-class, action packed Amazing Wonders Kids Experience.

6/17 – Father’s Day with the River Cats – Treat Dad to a day of baseball as the River Cats continue their tradition of Father’s Day at the ballpark. The River Cats take on the Tacoma Rainiers. It’s also Sunday Funday where kids can run bases postgame & get autographs pregame. First 2,500 fans receive a BBQ tool set.

A Father’s Day BBQ ticket package available which includes a Senate ticket; pregame BBQ that includes tri tip, hamburgers, Raley Field hot dogs, three sides, and one drink ticket; the chance to have a Father’s Day greeting printed along the baseline warning track; and the chance to throw out a first pitch.
