Weekend Family Fun

This weekend is full of Veteran’s Day celebrations, the opening of Annie at the 24th Street Theater, a Maidu Village tour at the Nature Center, Zany Zoology at the Discovery Museum & more!

11/9 – Sacramento Kings vs. San Antonio Spurs – The Sacramento Kings take on the San Antonio Spurs in this basketball game in this early season home game at Sleep Train Arena (formerly Power Balance Pavilion.)

11/9 – Annie, presented by Runaway State Productions opens at the 24th Street Theater – An orphan, Annie, and her dog Sandy are placed in the lap of luxury for a week as a part of a publicity campaign for Oliver Warbucks. However, Annie’s stay
turns out to be much more than anyone had bargained for as she works her way
into everyone’s hearts and learns a few things for herself. Considered a classic, and a much loved favorite, Annie is sure to be a great and heart warming show!

11/10 – Family Activity:  Salmon Stroll  at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – The annual migration of Chinook salmon have arrived. Join a naturalist and hike to the river to catch a glimpse of these impressive fish as they swish and swirl in the shallows.

11/10 – Youth Class:  Relief Printmaking Holiday Edition at Verge Center for the Arts – Try your hand at printmaking and discover the fun of trying a new way of making
art. Learn how to carve a print block print using Safety-Kut printmaking blocks,
which are easy to carve. Make holiday gift cards and/or decorative wrapping
paper using recycled materials.

11/10-11 – Zany Zoology at the Discovery Museum – Come visit the Discovery Museum this weekend to learn about popular animal groups. The Bone Zone exhibit highlights the anatomy of animals, as well as the special features that classify each animal group. There are many skeletons and skulls on display, pelts to touch, and costumes to wear—bring a camera! Do not forget to visit the live animals in the Nature Discovery Room. Children enjoy an arts and craft activity, making critter cubes to take home.  Planetarium shows are at 1pm & 3pm for ages 4 and older. Live animal presentations at Noon & 2pm for all ages.

11/11 – Saluting Our Heroes Veteran’s Day Parade at the Capital Mall Greens – Come support our Veterans at the 2nd annual Sacramento Veterans Day Parade! The parade begins at 10am, followed by a program.

11/11 – Veteran’s Day Tribute at the Aerospace Museum – to the Veteran’s Day Tribute at the Aerospace Museum of California. A special tribute and ceremony will be held in honor of all veterans presented by the Air Force Sergeant’s Association of Sacramento. The special program will be held at the Museum’s Memorial Plaza with a tribute to the flag, followed by the National Anthem, a wreath laying, and remarks. Also, the recently purchased bricks and pavers are installed and available for viewing.

11/11 – Family Activity:  Village Tour at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Step back in time on a guided tour of the Nisenan Maidu replica village. Discover the traditional uses for structures such as the granary, tule house, and grinding rock, and why it takes many steps to make acorns into food.  All ages welcome.

11/11 – Sunday Funday with Music Matt at the Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa – Time for the little ones to tap their feet to some fun musical tunes! That’s right, as part of a continuing monthly offering, kids ages three to six are invited to participate in an exciting and interactive Music Fun With Music Matt class designed to introduce them to enriching music, instruments, singing, and even some dancing, too. Parents are invited to enjoy the show as well or they can choose to explore all that the wellness resort has to offer (daily resort fees apply).

11/12 – Military Family Day at the Sacramento Zoo –  appreciation for our troops, all military personnel, veterans, and their families receive a 50% discount on Zoo admission with a valid military identification card.

11/12 – Veteran’s Day Celebration at the Military Museum – Come to the Veteran’s Day Celebration at the California State Military Museum. With visually-enticing army equipment on special display outdoors, the California State Military Museum will celebrate Veteran’s Day by offering free Museum admission to all community members on Sunday. In addition, the Museum will be open on the Veteran’s Day holiday Monday (regular Museum admission applies that day).
