Color Me Rad may sound like your favorite boy band from the 90′s, but it’s actually one of the hottest, most fun 5K runs you will lace up your sneakers for! This run has been very successful raising money for charities across the country and has gained media attention in each city it has been held, bringing people together to run in support of a great cause: The Special Olympics! “The Special Olympics of Northern California is a free year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More than 15,700 athletes compete in 154 competitions throughout the region in 12 sports. This requires the extraordinary support and time of 14,370 volunteers and volunteer coaches. Financial support comes almost exclusively from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations.” For more information on Special Olympics Northern California, click here.

Sacramento is proud to host this colorful run on May 27 at the Sacramento Raceway (5305 Excelsior Rd). If you are wondering what exactly is the Color Me Rad…think of a preschool classroom gone crazy!!! Every five minutes runners are showered with nontoxic color bombs! The Color Bombs start flying at 9 am with waves of runners getting plastered with color every 5 minutes after. You’ll end up with colorful paint from head to toe… running for a great cause- how cool is that??

Registration is now open and will end on May 23.  If you are looking for another incentive to get laced up and “colorful”, this is also a very family friendly event… kids ages 7 and under are FREE with a paying adult.  And after the run everyone will have fun enjoying snow cones, bounce houses and entertainment… a perfect ending to a festive morning!

We are also giving away a couple entries into this fun- filled colorful run to some lucky readers!  Go onto their facebook page and “like” the event:, and then come back and comment on this article as to why you should win tickets (and let us know what color you are hoping to be at the end of the race).
For those of you who don’t win tickets- don’t worry… we are also giving the first 100 readers 15% off of their registration. Just use the code:  SACKIDS at checkout.

So what are you waiting for? I know everyone made resolutions back in January to “get back into shape”, “give back to the community”, etc.   So now is your opportunity to do both and sign up for this fun run.  And get your kids out there running with you- I guarantee they will have a blast being “bombed” by the colors. I know my 5 year old daughter is excited just after seeing the pictures of last years event- she is already hoping that we both get “bombed” by pink and purple… I’m sure we will, and it will be an event that neither one of us will forget.

I hope to win the tickets because I would love to run with my 9 yr old son & 6 yr old daughter. They think it would be so cool to get “bombed” by the colors. And your running for such a great cause! We will be there no matter what!
