Running and Walking Events in Sacramento

Sacramento may be considered a runners dream. Everywhere you go- whether it’s the parks downtown, along the scenic river trails, up in the mountainous hills, or just alongside the suburban sidewalks- you will see runners everywhere. It may be our climate, the terrain or just the scenery- but, it seems as if Sacramento is a place where you can just lace up your shoes…and run!

Every month in Sacramento you can find some sort of running or walking event.  It could be something crazy as the “Zombie Run” downtown, as colorful as the “Color Run” or as dirty as the “Tough Mudder”.  But one thing is for sure- there is something for everyone and every age!  It’s a great way to teach your children about health and get them excited about exercise.

There are a couple runs/walks that are coming to town that caught my eye for the kids.  The first one is the Family Fun 5K Run/Walk for Reading on Saturday, August 17 at William Land Park.  The race will start at 8:30am and is a family run/ walk through our beautiful Land Park and is only $30 registration for the family! And once you are finished with the event, you will already be near to some of the best Sacramento family destinations- the Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town and Funderland!

On Sunday, September 15th, join other families at Southside Park for the “FARE Walk for Food Allergy”.  This event is to help raise funds for food allergy research, education, advocacy and awareness of food allergies…. something that seems to affect more and more families across America!  After the event there will be a live DJ, bounce house, face painting, give-aways and vendor booths set up to help raise awareness of food allergies.  This is going to be a great event for a great cause!  And, it’s at one of the best parks (in my opinion) in Sacramento- so you can’t go wrong with keeping the kids entertained all day!

If you have caught the “running bug” and are looking for a fun upcoming run/walk to participate in (or avoid the area completely), then check out our running/walks pages every month.  It is updated monthly with local races…if you see something that is not posted, please let us know.  There are so many in the area that it is hard to keep up with each and every one of them- but, we try our best to keep it updated.  We hope to see you out on the trails and supporting our local charities at these fun events! Happy Trails!
