Get Ready for “Back to School” at Funderland- Saturday, August 24th

Even though the Sacramento weather is telling us it’s definitely still Summer-  our kiddos will be back to school in just a few days and the “hustle and bustle” of the school year will begin once again!  If you are like me, then you are trying to cram in as much “summer time fun” before the 8am bell goes off next week… and, if your kids are reluctant to hit those school books, then one last family outing is what you need to get them ready!

Funderland Park, located in the beautiful William Land Park is having a “Back to School Extravaganza”.  On Saturday, August 24th enjoy the park with some exciting events planned to get the kids ready for school.

If you haven’t been to Funderland, it’s a park that consists of several “amusement park” style rides for the kids. They can ride on an old-fashion carousel, pilot a “Red Baron” plane, ride a mini roller-coaster, spin like a top (or until the puke) in the “Crazy Cups”, take a train ride around the park and more.

Of course they have a concession stand with the best “amusement park” fare- hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and snow-cones. But as always, I prefer to pack a lunch and picnic on one of the many benches under the beautiful trees our city has to offer!

Admission into the park is FREE and you just purchase tickets to ride on the rides. Each ride is only 1 ticket and you can purchase them individually or during the week, you can purchase wristbands (this is what I would suggest).

Special events that are scheduled for the Back to School Extravaganza include:

  • Mr. Cooper and his educational sing-a-long songs (11am & 3pm)
  • A special performance by Radio Disney (1pm – 2:30pm)
  • Educational vendor booths
  • Games, Crafts, & more!

Plus, if you donate new school supplies to River Oak Center for Children, you’ll receive a free goodie bag and help a great organization in the process! (River Oak helps children at risk, troubled teens, and families through mental health services, social services, behavioral therapy, and family counseling).

So stop the “back to school shopping” early and spend the day at Funderland… you can even make an entire day out of it and head over to the Sacramento Zoo and/or Fairytale Town.  Summer is almost over- make sure you make the most of it!
