10/11 – Campfire at the Maidu Museum – Sit under the stars at our outdoor amphitheater to enjoy native stories told by a local Elder around the campfire. We’ll provide roasting sticks and marshmallows for a sweet program’s end to this fun family event
10/11-10/13 – Last weekend to see The Little Mermaid – Come and see Ariel, Sebastian, and all her friends swim and sing…under the sea! The Young Performers Production of Disney’s Little Mermaid Junior is directed and choreographed by Jan Isaacson and musically directed by David Chan. All of your favorite songs from the animated classic are here including: “Under the Sea”, Kiss the Girl”, and “Part of His World.” This is for the whole family to enjoy!
10/12 – Acorn Day at the California State Indian Museum – Get ready for the new autumn season by visiting the State Indian Museum during an educational and fun-filled “Acorn Day” that celebrates the acorn, a traditional dietary staple of California Indians. Guests to the State Indian Museum will enjoy learning about the time-honored tradition of preparing acorn for food and sampling traditional acorn mush and flat breads. Children can participate in Native games, enjoy hands-on arts & crafts, watch traditional acorn processing demonstrations, learn to carve soapstone, actively listen to “Reading Rug” storytelling and more! Additionally, basketry, beadwork, clothing, and exhibits about the ongoing traditions of various California Indian groups will be on display at the Museum.
10/12 – 10/13 – 2nd Annual Sacramento Puppy and Kitten Show – A great family event, the Sacramento Puppy and Kitten Show will offer pet lovers dozens of opportunities to celebrate all things cat and dog! Bring your pet (or even just a photo) and communicate with a pet physic, let your dog run through our agility course, or watch dog agility demonstrations throughout the day. Plan your dog or cats birthday party and enjoy AKC breed and puppy competitions. Enter your dog in our Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest, win fun prizes, and shop some of the best pet and specialty vendors around!
10/12-10/13 – International Observe the Moon Night at the Discovery Museum – Visit the museum to learn about Earth’s nearest neighbor- the Moon! This international event reminds people to look up and enjoy our nearest celestial neighbor. With this newfound knowledge, kids decorate a moon cookie to take as a treat. Families can take home a “Moon Packet” with good viewing tips, moon map, and more!
10/13 – Free Family Concert – Camellia Symphony Orchestra – Back by popular demand, CSO will once again host its Free Family Concert Series with Instrument Petting Zoo. In addition, the family concerts will also include a visual art element presented by I Can Do THAT!, who will offer “funshops” for children to create art related to the musical experience. Back for his second season, Dr. Christian Baldini will be leading the orchestra for this concert series. Join for an afternoon of free educational music programs the whole family will enjoy.
