10/18 – Artober Discout Day at the Sacramento Children’s Museum – In celebration of ARTober, SCM is offering a 50% off discount for all children, every Friday in October!
10/18 – Campfire at the Maidu Museum and Historic Site – This is the last weekend to sit under the stars at our outdoor amphitheater to enjoy native stories told by a local Elder around the campfire. We’ll provide roasting sticks and marshmallows for a sweet program’s end to this fun family event.
10/19 – 22nd Annual Halloween Haunt at Safetyville USA – The best family carnival in Sacramento, featuring a magic show, mazes, and more. See Safety Bill, Sparky, McGruff, and your other favorite characters, and join them in the costume parade. You will also enjoy face painting, carnival games, and delicious food and drinks. Pumpkins also for sale starting in October and running through the Halloween Haunt.
10/19 – Fall Colors at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Create colorful Fall art by making a leaf rubbing for each of the leaf shapes found near the Nature Center. Learning each leaf is the key to identifying the many trees found in this area. Space is limited and sign-ups are taken the day of the event.
10/19 – Magic Show: Mysteries of Magic – This is a gathering of top named magicians in Northern California who want to share their magic with you. All ages will enjoy their mysteries and will ask themselves, “How did they do that?” all event long.
10/19 – Monster Bash at the Sacramento Children’s Museum – Join in for a night of ghoulish fun! Gear up for Halloween and wear your best costume and play the night away at the museum. There will be a DJ, dancing, refreshments, photo opportunities, a ‘haunted hallway,’ and of course, museum fun. Tickets will go fast so make sure to get yours today.
10/19 – Scarecrow Festival and Parade – Denio’s Farmers Market and Swap Meet in Roseville is inviting the entire community to join this year’s Denio’s Scarecrow Festival & Parade. The day will feature a variety of activities for the entire family including pumpkin and treat bag decorating, caramel apples, carnival games, a costume parade, scarecrow decorating contest, and trick-or-treating in the scarecrow arena. The entire region is invited to participate in the scarecrow contest and costume parade to help raise awareness and support for Roseville Firefighters Caring for Kids & Community, a program specifically designed to help Roseville’s children in need.
10/19 – 10/20 – Spookomotive Train Rides – Halloween-themed Spookomotive trains decorated for the season depart from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot in Old Sacramento. Join the Skeleton Crew for a fun and delightful (but not frightful) 40-minute ride along the Sacramento River.
10/18 – 10/19 – 2013 African Cultural Festival -Experience Africa without leaving Sacramento. Enjoy African cultural dances, arts, music, and crafts exhibits. Not to mention authentic cultural foods and live performances of African music, reggae, hip-hop, and so much more. Come out with the whole family and let children have fun and discover diverse cultures. Proceeds from the event will go to Humanitarian Foundation for charity causes in our local communities and in Africa.
10/19 – 10/20 – Going Batty at the Discovery Museum – Come out to the Museum highlighting some infamous creatures of the night-bats! Bring your family to explore some of the science behind these nocturnal mammals. A small bat display is set up for this weekend only and children may assemble a “bat clip” craft to take home. The Creature Feature is a PowerPoint presentation on bat biology in our planetarium (for all ages).
Thru 10/26 – CSI Transylvania Law and Order Special Pumpkins Unit – You won’t want to miss out on this incorporation of theater and pumpkin patch. Billy Mansion, recently winning his county’s largest pumpkin contest, decides to throw a costume party to celebrate the blue-ribbon-winning massive pumpkin. As guests arrive, suddenly the lights go out, and an incredibly unfortunate incident takes place. Billy calls in Lt. Erroneous Plot and his team of scientific experts to figure out Who Did It? And Why? A ridiculous satirical romp unfolds with exaggerated confessions, wild science experiments gone wrong, and a really cool huge audience participating explosion with a surprise ending. Come see this hilarious, kid-friendly who-done-it mystery show and pick out a pumpkin to take home.
