A Holiday Tradition- The Nutcracker comes back to Sacramento

Christmastime means candy canes, cold weather, warm smiles and of course- Sugarplum Fairies! What little girl (and boy) doesn’t have dreams of sugarplums dancing, marching toy soldiers, snowflakes and the magic that only this time of year can bring? I don’t think anyone could argue that the classic ballet “The Nutcracker” is one of the most beloved holiday traditions.  And once again, the Sacramento Ballet is proud to feature Ron Cunningham’s “The Nutcracker” here in Downtown Sacramento at the Community Center Theater.

The images of young Clara battling the Giant Mouse King, being saved by her Nutcracker Prince, and then journeying to the magical Snowflake Forest and Kingdom of the Sweets have become a part of our culture. Joining the professional company in this annual production are more than 500 youngsters from throughout the region who take their first “leap” into the world of performing arts with the Sacramento Ballet, making it a true holiday spectacular.”

I’m especially excited to go to the Nutcracker this year- as I’m planning on taking my six year old little girl.  She is “All Girl” and I can’t wait to see her expression when she watches the Sugar Plum Fairy dance across the stage…probably the best Christmas gift I will receive!

And on December 8th, if you have your own little “girlie girl”, you may want to sign up for the popular children’s High Tea event. Now I say for the “girlie girls”- but I guarantee I will also be bringing along my little boy to this event J . From 3:30-5:30 in the Capitol Plaza Ballroom, step into a Winter Wonderland and meet the characters from the Nutcracker, while enjoying a dessert buffet and special tea or hot chocolate.  Souvenir photos and memory books will be available to have your favorite cast members sign autographs. Tickets to this event are $30- please check website for availability, as they may sell out.

The Nutcracker Ballet begins on December 7 and runs through December 23.  Show times vary and tickets are $19-$90. Check their website or call for ticket information and performance times.
