It’s here. The dreaded first of the year, when everyone makes their new years resolutions and hope they “stick”. As we all know, it takes 21 days to form a habit…and somewhere between day one and day eight, most of us seem to “fall off” our resolutions and go back to the way we were the previous year. However, if you have decided to jump on the fitness bandwagon and possibly shed some of those holiday pounds that most of us gained- you are not alone! It seems as if everyone is trying out new fitness regimens and trying out classes like Cross Fit, Boot-Camps, KAIA, yoga and more. But, if you are a Sacramento native- then you know that just by lacing up your shoes and hitting the trails you will be among some of the fittest and most active individuals in our region.
Lucky for us, Sacramento may be considered a runners dream. Everywhere you go- whether it’s the parks downtown, along the scenic river trails, up in the mountainous hills, or just alongside the suburban sidewalks- you will see runners everywhere. It may be our climate, the terrain or just the scenery- but, it seems as if Sacramento is a place where you can just lace up your shoes…and run!
Every month in Sacramento you can find some sort of running or walking event. It could be something crazy as the “Zombie Run” downtown, as colorful as the “Color Run” or as dirty as the “Tough Mudder”. But one thing is for sure- there is something for everyone and every age! It’s a great way to teach your children about health and get them excited about exercise.
There are a couple runs/walks that are coming to town that caught my eye for the family. The first one is the Kickstart Duathlon and Free Kids Duathlon in Granite Bay on January 18. Also, on February 2 is the SuperBowl Sunday Run (to help burn off some of those nachos everyone will be eating while watching the game).
