2/7 – 2/9 – Pocahontas – Pocahontas has also made friends with the English settlers of Jamestown, a community struggling with starvation and sickness. This enchanting musical is graced with a wonderful cast of characters: Little Running Rabbit, Brave Eagle, Aunt Morning Star, Forest Spirits, Mother Earth and, of course, the people of Jamestown. Audiences will be swept away with DeTurk’s original music, featuring such songs as “Live Forever,””No Common Ground” and the beautiful “Your Heart Always Knows.”
This is a Workshop Production featuring Sacramento Theatre Company’s 6-12 year old performers.
2/8 – 25th Annual Sweet Potato Festival – The Sacramento Valley Section of The National Council of Negro Women, INC. and the Samuel C. Pannell Community Center present the 25th Annual Sweet Potato Festival- please join in a day of food, fun & activities for the whole family! There will be a sweet potato pie contest, games, food vendors (all featuring an item made with sweet potatoes), a DJ and live music. Attendees will be able to enjoy sweet potato pies as well as get access to educational, civic, and community resources that promote positive and healthy behaviors for youth and adults.
2/8 – Save the Frogs at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Amphibian populations around the world are declining at an alarming rate and nearly one-third of the world’s amphibian species are on the verge of extinction. Michael Starkey will share photos of amphibians from around the world, explain the Amphibian Extinction Crisis, and ways you can help out amphibians around the globe!
2/8 – 2/9 – Circus Oz: From the Ground Up – Circus Oz sizzles into UC Davis to gleefully present its latest spectacular show for audiences of all ages. From old black and white photographs of workers on high steel girders, Circus Oz has created a new production, starting from the ground up. With a ridiculous combination of jugglers, musicians, acrobats, riggers, and aerialists, it is a celebration of diversity.
2/8 – 2/9 – Apatosaur Adventure – Visit the Blast from the Past! exhibit with loads of rocks, crystals, fossils and dinosaurs for you to explore. Study the ferocious meat eaters and the massive plant eaters of the past. Once you know who’s who, craft one of the largest herbivores, a Brachiosaur. With crayons and scissors, children create a dinosaur to take home as a souvenir. There will be representatives from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, with Jungle Book-themed crafts and give-aways. Enter a drawing for Jungle Book Blu-Ray packages!
2/9 – I Heart Sacramento Zoo – Bring your valentine to a special I Heart Sacramento Zoo day organized by the Sacramento Zoo Teen volunteers. The event features valentine-themed animal
enrichment, informative talks and activity tables.
