7/11 – 7/27 – 161st Annual California State Fair – The seventeen-day California State Fair is a robust celebration of the State of California, its industries, agriculture and diversity of its people. For many the State Fair is the culmination of hard work throughout the year. For others, the State Fair is a family summer tradition of enjoyment with plenty of entertainment, fascinating exhibits, popular livestock venues and mouth-watering food!
7/12 – Maidu Summer Village Tour – The Maidu people have lived in this area since long before Europeans came to California. Join a naturalist to view cultural artifacts and craftwork, and then take a tour of the Nature Center’s replica Maidu village.
7/12 – Sacramento Fire Station Open House – The Sacramento Fire Department will host a Fire Station Open House this week at Station 19 – 1700 Challenge Way. Bring your family and friends to visit with firefighters, take a tour of the fire station, get an up-close look at a fire engine, and more!
7/12 – Arts for All Day at Fairytale Town – Performances, visual art shows, and art “funshops” will be featured at this annual event presented by I Can Do That! Arts for All Day brings together children of all abilities to interact through, create and enjoy the arts. Enjoy a performance by ACT ON!, a children’s theater camp project of I Can Do That!, and view visual arts creations by I Can Do That! students. Stop by the art “funshops” to make flying saucers, rhumba shakers, pipe cleaner jewelry, spiral mobiles and more.
7/12 – Art Blast at the Crocker Art Museum – Each month, a different work of art provides the inspiration for a memorable art-making activity. Families are welcome to arrive anytime during this drop-in program.
7/12 – 7/13 – Summer Fun at the Discovery Museum – Beat the summer heat and head inside to the Discovery Museum! Have a prehistoric adventure in their Blast from the Past exhibit, greet one of their live animals in the Creature Feature, or blast-off into space by attending a planetarium show. To complete this day of fun, children will decorate a bedazzled sun windsock to take home as a souvenir!
7/12 – 7/13 – Community Campout – Gather your camping gear and explore the great outdoors a little closer to home. Enjoy campground favorites like swimming, crafts, campfire songs, and s’mores at this campout hosted by The Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) and Boy Scout Troop 007. Dinner and breakfast will be prepared by the Elk Grove Lions Club.
Thru July 13 -Broadway Sacramento’s Mary Poppins at the Wells Fargo Pavillion Using a little bit of discipline, a spoonful of sugar, and a whole lot of magic, the quintessential nanny reacquaints the Banks family with the things that really matter in life. This Disney classic is fun for all ages, and will bring to life classic songs, “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and “Step In Time.”
7/13 – Whoo’s There at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Meet an owl and take an eye-opening look at these amazing hunters.
7/13 – Summer Fun: B Street Theatre’s Children’s Workshop – Children will experience the fantasy and imagination of acting and role-playing. This is a great introduction to theatre and the many facets of play making. The mission of B Street Theatre is to promote education and literacy, social interaction, and cultural enrichment by engaging children and adults in the highest quality theatre arts and playwriting.
