Are your kids (husbands or yourself) fascinated with the aeronautical wonders in the sky? Do you have future pilots zipping and zooming around the house? If so- then mark your calendars for the ninth annual California Capital Airshow , presented by Sacramento County and held at Mather Airfield on September 6-7.  You will experience all things shiny, fast and loud!  Spine-tingling military and civilian jet performance, thrilling aerobatics, barnstorming, pyrotechnics, vintage aircraft, music choreography and more!

Kids of all ages will be amazed at the demonstrations, interactive exhibits and shows that are scheduled to appear this year. Some of the events that can be seen include the USAF F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, the Patriots Jet Demonstration Team with aerobatic maneuvers, opportunities to explore aircraft both inside and out and even meet some of the pilots and crew members!

Established in 2004, the California Capital Air show is one of the largest and highly respected air shows in the nation, and we are very lucky to have it hosted in our Sacramento area.  As part of its community relations this non-profit organizations has awarded over 80 scholarships to deserving students from our region with an interest in aviation, aerospace, aeronautics and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) related fields.

Located at the Mather Airport, it’s just 10 miles outside of downtown Sacramento at 10510 Superfortress Avenue in Mather.  The show will run from 9am-5pm and admission can be purchased in advance or at the gates. The general admission prices for adults 12 and over is $20 at the door, pre sale $15.  Children ages 6-12 is $10 or $7.50 presale and children 5 and under are free.

There is a $10 parking fee (CASH only) or you can purchase a prepaid parking pass on their website (if you are like me I would buy the prepaid pass, since I never seem to have cash on hand!).

If you are planning on attending this exciting fun-filled event here are a few tips to keep in mind:

* Wear Comfortable Shoes… lots of walking and asphalt…forgo the desire to “look cute” and dress for comfort today! * Don’t forget the sunscreen and umbrella to protect you from the sun. * Bring CASH for parking and concession purchases (they will have ATM’s inside- but no one wants to pay the bank service fees). * Bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to the noise…there will be LOTS of noise. *Don’t forget your camera for those great once in a lifetime shots!

This is a great experience for kids and adults alike. Many memories will be made and your family will have a great time if you decide to attend and one lucky reader will have the opportunity to take their family!  Respond to this post as to what you would like to experience at the air show.  We will be announcing the winner on Tuesday, September 2nd -this is for a family 4 pack of tickets to attend. Good Luck!

I can’t wait for my kids to be able to watch the many aerial acts. Both of my kids point out the airplanes in the sky and are mesmerized whenever they see anyone skydiving on tv. The show will definitely be one they won’t soon forget.

It would be so awesome for my 5 & 7 year old sons who LOVE planes to be able to go to their 1st air show. It would be an extra special and exciting treat for my usually super active 7 year old as he recently broke his arm (required surgery to insert pins) and can do very little in the way of his usual fun stuff for 5 more weeks. THIS he could absolutely do, and would have a great time!!

My youngest son has never had the pleasure of attending an air show. My older children attended them up in Redding (I have a picture on my facebook page of the three of them with a friend at one), but would love for my fourth to get to enjoy at least one also.

Being an Air Force brat, living on or near an Air Force Base all my life, until both bases closed in our region, air shows and watching military planes has been a life long passion of mine. I would love to take my family to the California Capital Airshow and share the love of aviation with my little ones.
