Sacramento is a great place to get out and be active! Whether it’s the local hiking trails, bike paths or local running and walking events- there is something going on every weekend to keep you and your family active and fit.
This weekend is no exception- we have several events taking place for those who are looking for a way to get in some exercise or just to be a spectator at some great events. If you are looking for a way to get out and lace up your running shoes, take a look at some local running events in the area:
ROC Race on Saturday, September 6th is going to be a wild and crazy event at Cal Expo. ROC Race is the original game show-inspired obstacle run featuring 12 larger than life obstacles including the infamous Wrecking Ball, the brand new Sweeper, Jump Balls, and the World’s Largest Inflatable Water Slide! This will be an event to experience!
Run to Remember 5K. This race will begin and end at Capitol Mall in Downtown Sacramento on Sunday, September 7. “At the finish of the 5K, American flags will be handed to runners at the Tribute site located on Capitol Mall between 6th and 7th streets. The Tribute will be a family friendly event where runners and members of the community are encouraged to gather in honor of all the families whose time together was cut short. We will honor these families by asking each participant of the run and members of the community that stop by to place an American Flag next to the name of one of the nearly 3000 victims lost on 9/11”.
40th Annual Buffalo Stampede 10 Mile Run/ Walk at Rio Americano in Sacramento. On Sunday, September 7th, you can join in on the fun by entering in to run or walk this event, put your kids in the FREE ½ mile run for kids or just go out and cheer on the runners!
And if you are looking for something to just kick back and watch- then check out the Cyclocross racing in West Sacramento on Saturday, September 6 at the River Walk Park (in front of the big Ziggurat building).
What is Cyclocross you may ask? Cyclocross is a form of bicycle racing. The races typically consist of many laps of different short courses that include terrains as pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles. Riders of all levels will be participating in this race- and if you go to their webpage, you can sign yourself up to take the challenge! Everyone from beginner, intermediate, expert, women, men and even kids can participate.
And if the high intensity bike riding isn’t your thing, then you can just come out to watch and support the riders. Did I mention that they will also have live music, food trucks and a beer garden featuring some of our best local breweries at the event? The event is FREE to attend and watch- if you decide to race, you must register and pay the fee. The Kids race is FREE and so is the entertainment. So if you are looking for something fun and active to do this weekend- check out these great events going on around the Sacramento area.
