9/11 – 9/22 – Circus Vargus Magikaria Extravaganza – Get ready for the ultimate entertainment extravaganza for all ages! Circus Vargas presents its most mind-blowing, highly anticipated spectacular. See where the magic begins and the nail-biting, heart-pounding, death-defying action takes place!  The Big Top will be stopping at the following locations:  September 11-15: Sunrise Mall; September 18-22: Westfield Galleria at Roseville

9/12 – Farm-to-Fork Tractor Parade – The Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau will usher in the 2014 Farm-to-Fork Celebration with the roar of more than three-dozen tractors chugging through downtown Sacramento. This parade of farm equipment will pay homage to the machines that bring the farm to the fork, and visitors should expect to see some familiar faces behind the tractor wheels. The tractors will cross the Tower Bridge and move down the Capitol Mall.  Parade begins at 11:30 am.

9/12 – 9/14 – American River Music Festival – The 8th Annual American River Music Festival features three days and nights of beautiful riverfront camping, a guided river walk, live art, great food and beverages, artistic vendors, tons of kid’s activities and, without a doubt, the nicest folks around!  This year’s festival presents over 30 live performances by renowned musicians in 10 locations throughout the friendly river town of Coloma; the site of gold’s discovery in California.

9/12 – 9/15 – Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus – Behold the living legends! Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey brings the unbelievable to children of all ages in an all-new show called Legends. Experience unimaginable family fun, as amazing performers from around the globe perform awe-inspiring feats of daring, spectacles of strength and thrills of wonder to summon the mythical and mysterious creatures of the past: a unicorn, a Pegasus, and a Woolly Mammoth! Join for an unforgettable family night of legendary proportions.

9/13 – Washington Park Movie Night – Join for a 2nd Saturday free showing of The Princess Bride in Washington Park, put on by the District 4 office. There will be food trucks and a beer garden with microbrews that benefits the pets at the Front Street Animal Shelter.

9/13 – Community Safety Day at the Folsom Premium Outlets – Folsom Premium Outlets invites families to visit the center for a fun-filled Community Safety Day! At the event, AAA will be conducting child safety seat inspections and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct bike helmet fittings and bicycle safety courses.  Guests will also have a chance to have their picture taken in a patrol car or fire truck and can enter-to-win one of four $50 gift cards. The Folsom Police Department will perform catalytic converter etching.

9/13 – Sacramento Fire Station Open House at Station 15 – The Sacramento Fire Department will begin hosting Fire Station Open Houses on Saturdays starting in May. Bring your family and friends to visit with firefighters, take a tour of the fire station, get an up-close look at a fire engine, and more!

9/13 – Plants with a Purpose at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Discover how the first Californians used only what the land provided for everyday life. Learn uses of many plants such as tule, willow, and other native plants that provided food, medicines, baskets and other necessities. Note: Space is limited. Sign-ups taken the day of the event.

9/13 – Art Blast at the Crocker Art Museum – This month, Art Blast helps families get ready for International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The Dot is the story of a child who begins a journey of self-discovery after a caring teacher challenges her to “make her mark.” Families are invited to drop in anytime during the program to create one-of-a-kind art, in honor of Dot Day.

9/13 – 9/14 – Dino Diorama – Visit with your family to find dinosaurs lurking about Discovery’s Blast from the Past! exhibit. From the peaceful Apatosaurus to the terrifying claws of the raptor family, they have a dinosaur for everyone. Make sure you catch a view of their newest beast, a life-size juvenile Triceratops. Bring your camera to catch your little ones transformed into dinos in their costume corner. Children craft a dinosaur diorama in the classroom. Get your own toy dinosaur to play with in the scene.

9/14 – Raptors: Fantastic Fliers at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Meet a live raptor and discover why they are such skilled hunters and fantastic fliers.
