10/9 – The Future of Cheetahs – Listen to cheetah expert and director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, Dr. Laurie Marker, as she discusses living in Africa and introduces her new book “A Future for Cheetahs.” Joining her will be Suzi Eszterhas an award-winning photographer who spent three years in Africa, photographing the life of wild cheetahs.
10/9 – 10/12 – The Velveteen Rabbit – A timeless children’s classic, The Velveteen Rabbit hops from the bedside table to the theatrical stage in this magical production from Davis Musical Theatre Company’s Young Performers’ Theatre. In Margery Williams’ touching story, a young boy forms a special bond with his stuffed rabbit, who wants nothing more than to become real through the love of its owner. This delightful play introduces this poignant tale to a new generation of fans.
10/10 – 10/11 – 47th Annual Oktoberfest – The Sacramento Turn Verein will hold its 47th Annual Oktoberfest at Turner Hall, a celebration patterned after the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich. The largest folk festival in the world has been a Bavarian tradition for 200 years. Many Sacramentans have come to anticipate the Turn Verein’s Oktoberfest because they know they can enjoy traditional German music, food and drink that they can find only at this event. Children’s activities and crafts will also be available Saturday afternoon
10/11 – Art Blast Global Cardboard Challenge – Families with children (Ages 7-12) are invited to participate in the Global Cardboard Challenge! Come create at this worldwide celebration of child creativity and the role communities play in fostering it. Kids will be offered the opportunity and resources to design and build using cardboard, recycled materials, and imagination.
10/11 – Clay Modeling for Mini Car Designers at the California Automobile Museum – Do your kids love to play with clay? Well, this class will take that love to a whole new level! For generations, automakers have designed their cruising masterpieces from everyday modeling clay, and this class, open to children Ages 3 to 8, will show them how to make model cars just like the pros; of course, they’ll get to take their models home as a souvenir.
10/11 – Last Call Vintage Car Show Fundraiser – The Heidrick Ag History Center is hosting one of its largest fundraising events of the year! Spectators can enjoy music, food, raffles and prizes, beer and wine, awards and more!
10/11 – Nature Detectives at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Put your detective skills to use as you explore many of the different signs animals leave behind. You’ll go on a tracking adventure and examine pelts, tracks, teeth, and bones from a variety of animals to determine what has been visiting our trails.
10/11 – 10/12 – The I Hate Children children’s Show – The I Hate Children Children’s Show is the ultimate magic show for families. The show stars the meanest man in the world played by Paul Nathan. Nathan is one of the top magicians working in the world today. He plays the scoundrel but ultimately delivers the most well thought out children’s show imaginable while keeping parents engaged and in stitches from beginning to end.
10/12 – Going Batty at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Explore the mysteries of bats and get eye to eye with some bat biofacts! Discover why these beneficial animals have been so misunderstood.
