Children’s Museums in the Sacramento Region

The fall festivities are enough to give your littlest ones a fright and “scare them silly”.  If you are ready for the ghosts and goblins to disappear and find some activities for you and your child that involves more playful learning, then visit some of our local museums that are dedicated to fostering creativity and education.

Here is a list of some of our local museums and some that are just a quick drive away if you were visiting some of our neighboring cities:

Sacramento Children’s Museum:  2701 Prospect Park, Rancho Cordova 95670.  (916) 638-7225 Tuesday- Sunday 9am-5pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm General Admission $7 The Sacramento Children’s Museum believes that “play is an essential part of a child’s “work”. Through hands-on exhibits, children can use their imagination and creativity to express themselves and learn new things.

Discovery Museum and Science Center:  3615 Auburn Blvd. Sacramento, 95821 (916) 808-3942 Tuesday- Friday 12pm-4:30, Saturday and Sunday 10am-4:30pm Adults $8, Teens $7, Children 4-12 $6 This is a “hands on”, interactive museum that teaches children (and parents) the wonders of science and space. Exhibits change throughout the year- check website for current exhibit. They also have planetarium and wildlife shows, as well as nature walks and craft activities on the weekends.

California Automobile Museum:  2200 Front Street, Sacramento. (916) 442-6802 Auto enthusiasts of all ages will love the displays and exhibits this museum has to offer.  Whether you are a fan of the classic car, hot-rods or just the history of the automobile, there is something for everyone.  The knowledgeable staff is very informative and you will be impressed on what you can see and learn at this museum. Open Daily 10am-6pm.  General Admission $8 Students $4.

California Railroad Museum:  125 I Street, Old Sacramento. (916) 323-9280 Kids of all ages will enjoy a visit to what is regarded as North America’s finest and most popular railroad museum.  This museum really is quite spectacular. There are more than 20 restored locomotives and railroad cars, along with a variety of exhibits. Open Daily 10am-5pm.  $10 Adults, $5 Children

California Aerospace Museum:  3200 Freedom Park Drive, McClellan 95652 (916) 643-3192 If you or anyone in your family is interested in aviation- then a visit the Aerospace museum is a must!  They have over 40 military and civilian aircraft on display, along with 15 restored engines, a beautiful Coast Guard Art collection, a Morphis Motion Ride Simulator and more! Open Daily 10am-4pm.  Adults $8. Children $6.

Lodi’s World of Wonders:  2 N Sacramento Street, Lodi, 95240 (209) 368-0969
“An educational hands-on science museum located in Historical downtown Lodi, California. The mission of the World of Wonders Science Museum is to offer hands-on science-based exhibits and programs to stimulate discovery for all ages.” Open Wednesday- Monday (closed Tuesday) 10am-5pm.  General Admission $6, Children $4.

Scientopia- Discovery Center 1785 B Tanen Street, Napa 94559 (707) 259-1559 Napa’s hidden treasured family destination. At the discovery center, imagination and love of science, math and art is encouraged through hands-on exhibits and creative play. Open Daily.  Adults are Free.  Children $8.
