For many of us, it’s a three-day weekend! Here’s what’s going on around town to help you keep your kids busy.
1/17 – Winter Blues Bash at the Roseville Utility Exploration Center – Build your own bluebird vacation home and learn about the good, the bad, and the buggy through activities designed to encourage a healthy habitat. Enjoy bug viewers, puppets, and a variety of other activities for the whole family; and help us kick off our community art garden with Blue Line Arts.
1/17 – Birding for Families at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Bring the family out to join special guest guides from the Sacramento Audubon Society for a birding walk. Birdwatchers of all levels welcomed! Bring your binoculars or the Center can lend you a pair.
1/17 – Meet Captain Hook at Fairytale Town – Meet the cast of the Sacramento Ballet’s upcoming Peter Pan performance at Fairytale Town this Saturday! Enjoy storytime, take photos with the cast, and join Captain Hook’s crew by becoming an Honorary Neverland Pirate! Free with paid park admission. 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
1/18 – Black-Tailed Deer at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – The bucks are in their winter glory, with beautiful antler crowns. Grab your binoculars (or borrow some) and catch a closer look at the black-tailed deer in their oak woodland habitat.
1/17 – 1/19 – Space Quest Opening Weekend at the Discovery Museum – Launch into outer space by exploring the Space Quest! exhibit and all the fun it holds. Learn about the planets in the solar system, take photos of your child dressed as an astronaut, and play in a rocket ship. Children make a rocket-on-a-stick craft to help their imagination take flight!
1/17 – 1/19 – Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink – This is the last open weekend for you and your family to head downtown, lace up your skates, and ice skate under the sky. Open 10am to 8pm on closing day.
1/18 – 1/19 – Harlem Globetrotters at Sleep Train Arena – The iconic Harlem Globetrotters are coming to town with their unrivaled family show, featuring some of the greatest athletes on the planet. With incredible ball handling wizardry, amazing rim-rattling dunks, trick shots, side-splitting comedy, and unequaled on-court fan interaction, this must-see event is guaranteed to entertain the whole family — creating memories that will last a lifetime.
1/19 – All Aboard For Story Time with Dick Cable at the Railroad Museum – Legendary, local newscaster, Dick Cable, will be reading the children’s book All Aboard the Dinotrain. Let this story about railroads and dinos help introduce and foster the love of reading for your little ones.
