Sacramento Weekend Family Fun

There’s some fun family activities happening around Sacramento this weekend. Your little car enthusiasts can learn how to model cars out of clay at the California Automobile Museum, or learn what happens to your trash from Curby, the talking trash-bot at Roseville’s Utility Exploration Center. How about celebrate Dr. Suess’ birthday at the Discovery Museum, or take in a free Dr.Suess movie, the Lorax at the Coloma Community Center. Whatever you choose to do, do it well amd have a great weekend in the river city!

2/27 – Movie Night Indoors: Lorax – Join us at the Coloma Community Center for an indoor showing of The Lorax. Free popcorn will be provided, and additional snacks will be available for purchase.

2/27 – 3/1 – Disney’s Mulan Jr. at the 24th Street Theater – Young Actors Stage presents the family-friendly musical Mulan, Jr. based on the story Fa Mulan by Robert di San Souci and the 1998 Disney film about a young girl from ancient China who takes up arms to defeat the Huns. Familiar songs include “Reflection,” and “Honor to us All.”

2/28 – Curby’s Waste-A-Palooza at the Roseville Utility Exploration Center – Drop by to find out what happens when you throw stuff away or send it down the drain. Crawl through the obstacle course, create recycled crafts, and practice talking trash in our quiz show hosted by Curby the talking trash-bot. Create your own compost bin to remind you to rethink, reuse, and recycle every day. Help grow the community art garden with Blue Line Arts by making flowers from recycled materials.

2/28 – Pre-K Clay Modeling at the California Automobile Museum –  Sign-up your little ones for the this hands-on and fun Pre-K Clay Modeling Class! Kids will learn about cars from a knowledgeable and kid friendly museum teacher, and get a chance to design their own car based off what they have learned. This class is appropriate for varying age levels; and can help accommodate growing minds and to peak interests in the engineering field.

2/28 – Future Engineers Clay Modeling at the California Automobile Museum – For ages 7-13, sign-up your child for the this fun, hands-on Future Engineers Clay Modeling Class! Kids will learn about how cars were first designed using clay medium in the early days of the automobile industry and how they have continue to use design method today. Then, the kids will gain the extraordinary opportunity to create a model car out of clay and peak their interest in the engineering field, just the way the pros do it! Of course, you get to keep your model as a souvenir!

2/28 – Tools and Tales at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Join the Effie Yeaw Nature Center and enjoy some tantalizing tales of creatures, people, and nature! Get a chance to view replica Maidu artifacts made from the gifts of the earth and learn about their many uses.

2/28 – 3/1 – Suess, Science and Space at the Discovery Museum – Celebrate Dr.Seuss’ birthday at the Discovery Museum! Share the stories of Dr. Seuss with your children by bringing them in for the Family Feature story time. Crafts for kids include making a Lorax mustache to take home and wear. Have fun coloring some Dr. Seuss themed pages. Bring a camera to get some photos with the Seuss inspired photo board!

3/1 – Sacramento Comic, Toy and Anime Show – The Sacramento Comic, Toy and Anime show (Sac-Con) is Sacramento’s original Comic-Con, providing family friendly pop-culture entertainment for over 30 years. Highlights include a huge vendors room, small press zone featuring talented local artists, panels and workshops hosted by our celebrity guests, cosplay costume contest, charity raffle benefitting local charities and much more.

3/1 – Fantastic Flyers at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Meet a live raptor and learn more about these amazing hunters.
