If you are looking for some fun St. Patrick’s Day activities to do with the kids, here’s a great list. You can trap a leprechaun at the the public library, get your face painted on a St. Patrick’s Day river cruise, or see green at Shrek the Musical and much, much more. Have a good one!
3/11 – Make Your Own Pot of Gold with ArtBeast at the Sacramento Arcade Library – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a little magic! After sharing a silly St. Patrick’s Day story guests will paint some rocks gold to make their very own golden nuggets and then nestle them in a little pot under the rainbow.
3/12 – Trap a Leprechaun at the North Highlands Library – Build a leprechaun trap with a variety of recyclable materials. You will add some coins, Lucky Charms, and glitter to catch those wily leprechauns!
3/12 – Taste a Rainbow – Become a food explorer! Fruits and vegetables have many different flavors. Come explore and taste sweet, savory, and sour foods. Record your favorites in an explorer journals. There will also be a reading of Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey.
3/13 – 3/21 – Shrek the Musical presented by Musical Mayhem – Join Shrek, a green swamp-dwelling ogre, on his life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land in this sensational stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks movie. Accompanied by a wise-cracking donkey, Shrek becomes an unlikely hero who fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and ultimately learns that real friendship and true love aren’t just for fairy tales. Adapted for young performers ages 8-20, this junior production of Shrek The Musical is a hilariously irreverent foray into everyone’s favorite fairy tales.
3/14 – 19th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Old Sacramento – Hundreds of colorful marchers dressed in green, along with Irish and Highland dancers, pipe and drum bands, historic re-enactors, and a variety of cultural organizations, will all join together to be a part of the 19th Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade!
3/14 – St. Patrick’s Day River Cruise – This St. Patrick’s Day spend your afternoon on the Sacramento River. Enjoy a one hour cruise of the Sacramento River with a Face painter & Balloon Artist for the kids! See where the American and Sacramento Rivers come together to experience the wildlife and breathtaking natural beauty that this historic and important waterway has to offer.
3/15 – Seeing Green at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Join a naturalist for some “catch and release” activities in the Nature Center’s pond. Explore the critters living there and see how being green makes life a little easier in the pond.
3/17 – Trap a Leprechaun at the Franklin Community Library – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by making a trap to catch tricky leprechauns! During the class you’ll use coins, Lucky Charms, glitter, and recycled materials to build one-of-a-kind leprechaun traps in this free craft program hosted by the Franklin Community Library.
