Four Unique Ways to Enjoy Holiday Cheer in Sacramento this Month

old-sacramento-heritage-holidays-treeIt’s the most wonderful time of the year!  The holidays are upon us and here in Sacramento we have some of the most fun activities around town to get everyone in your family in the holiday spirit.  Between holiday lights and music, pictures with Santa, and watching the Nutcracker performances, you can fill up your December calendar with activities all month long.   Here is a list of some unique activities that are going on around our Capitol city that you can do with your family:

  1. Start your holiday season off like royalty and head to one of Sacramento area’s most upscale shopping venues- the Fountains in Roseville for some royal treatment! Whether you want to do some holiday shopping at the fountains, or just enjoy the spectacular lights and décor, you will find something to enjoy this time of year.   To live the dream of being Cinderella- the Fountains has special holiday Carriage rides fit for a princess this month.  For $4, you can ride around the mall in a beautifully light carriage that is sure to make girls of all ages feel like royalty! Along with the carriage rides, Victorian carolers will be making appearances singing all our favorite Christmas songs. Carriage rides will be held through December on Friday nights from 6pm-8pm and Saturday nights from 5pm-8pm.
  2. Go Ice Skating at the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink.  Located in the St. Rose Lima Park at the corner of 7th and K Street in Downtown Sacramento, the ice rink will be open through January 17th.  General admission is $12 and children ages 6 and under $6.  They offer skating lessons for those who may not be skilled on the ice.  This is always such a fun holiday activity with the kids… some hot cocoa, holiday music and ice skating.  What a great way to make memories!
  3. Santa’s Secret Adventure at Penryn Oak Stables. This is an event the kids will remember forever!  Located at 2460 Del Mar Avenue in Penryn (approximately 40 minutes from downtown Sacramento), your family will be whisked away by one of Santa’s horse drawn carriages through trails and trees until reaching Santa’s workshop and meeting Mrs. Claus and all his elf helpers.  Enjoy stories, hot cocoa and interactive activities to put everyone in the holiday spirit.  Tickets for this adventure range from $20-$41.
  4. Sacramento Magical Train Ride. Kids of all ages love train rides, and we all know that the Polar Express tends to sell out quickly.  So, why not check out the Sacramento Magical Train Ride and hear about the story of “Morgan and the Magical Christmas Train”.  Take a 90 minute train ride in the pajamas; enjoy some hot cocoa and holiday tunes while visiting with Santa and his elves.   Tickets range from $44-$60 and leaves from the West Sacramento train station at 400 N. Harbor Blvd.

This is a small list of the events going on around town, but hopefully whatever you choose to do, you and your family had a very happy holiday season!
