Great Authentic Mexican food at a family friendly price!  Luckily, there are 3 locations to choose from- and each of the locations have equally tasty food.
With hungry kids, a mom can’t complain with quick service and loads of chips and salsa!  Lunchtime menus are served so quick that you don’t even get to finish the basket of chips…that’s what I call service!
My family recently visited the 4th Street location and was happy to be able to sit in the enclosed outdoor patio seating.  With a 3-year-old and almost 2-year-old… we had to separate ourselves from the people who were looking to have a “peaceful” meal and sit in an area that the kids could be..well, kids!
Even though my daughter is a picky eater, we were able to find something on the kids menu that would suit her… for a few bites at least.  My boy eats everything and he just LOVED the kid sized burritos!

On a busy Friday or Saturday night, most people wouldn’t necessarily think of Zocolos as being “family friendly”. However, if you take your kiddos on any given night (before evening rush of the 20-30 year old singles)- they are actually very family friendly.
My hubby and I took our 2 little ones during the week… we were craving our favorite dish; tacos de cazuela and one of Zocolos famous margaritas. And to our surprise, they were one of the more family friendly restaurants that I have been to in a while!
First of all, they have a great kids menu- Nachos, Quesadillas, Burritos, etc. …and all meals come with drink, beans, rice and dessert (only $6). They were quick in getting us seated, gave both kids placemats to color on, a balloon and again- quick service!
Since they are a busy and “hip” local hangout, the noise level was higher than other restaurants- which also makes it a great place to take the kids. A little extra noise to drown out those giggles and/or pre-dinner whines is always a bonus when taking young children out.

So if your craving some really good Mexican food (a bit more upscale than the typical “corner” joint) and don’t want to hit up another “chain” restaurant. Zocolos in mid-town Sacramento is a great choice!

  1. Went to vallejos restaurant Based on your review. The they have no children’s menu. No color Crayons, no paper for the kids. their food was below par. the rice was overcooked and the flour tortillas were dry. We asked for more rice and had to pay for another side order. I do not recommend this restaurant on O St. As child friendly or particularly tasty.

    • Hi Cathie,

We are so sorry that you did not have a good experience at Vallejo’s! Restaurants are a tough thing to keep track of as owners, managers and menus are constantly changing, often changing the feel of the restaurant itself. We’ll take another look at Vallejo’s to decide whether it stays on our list or not. Thank you so much for your feedback, we appreciate it.
