It’s Spring! Four Sacramento Activities your Kids are Going to Love

Whether your kids are currently on spring break or not, you’ll want to take advantage of this beautiful weather to get the family out to enjoy the sunshine and special spring activities around Sacramento. Here are four of our favorite family friendly events that are coming up.

  1. 1. To the Rescue: The Fire Trucks and People That Saved Our Cities. This new exhibit at the California Automobile Museum is just up your kids’ alley. They’ll get to enjoy this colorful and dramatic exhibit that includes antique fire trucks from as early as late 1800s, all the way through the 1940s. Also on display are fire-fighting equipment and other tools that helped fire fighters save our cities throughout the years. A highlight of the exhibit will be stepping up into a 1921 Graham fire truck and sitting in the driver’s seat. Exhibit runs from March 16 through May 29, 2017. If you go opening weekend (3/16, 3/18, 3/19) there will be special docents on hand to answer your questions and show you around. California Automobile Museum.
  2. Fun on the Farm: Enchanted Garden at Soil Born Farms. If your kiddos are into gardening, fairies or both, you won’t want to miss this special day at Soil Born Farms. Kids ages three to nine will explore the magical world of gardens and the flower fairies and garden gnomes who mysteriously live there. They’ll enjoy hands-on activities like making flower crowns, nature wands and more. They’ll also enjoy a healthy snack. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Soil Born Farms. Tickets are $25 and advanced registration is required. While this event is currently sold out, you can add your child’s name to a waiting list here.
  3. Going West: Story of the Transcontinental Railroad at B Street Theatre. Kids can bring their California State Railroad Museum entrance receipt (or season pass) to the famed B Street Theatre on Saturday and Sundays at 1pm and 4pm beginning March 18 through April 2 to see a performance of Going West: Story of the Transcontinental Railroad. In addition to the performance, register for the Family Activity Day on March 25 for fun activities and healthy snacks. March 18 through April 2, B Street Theatre.
  4. Sutter Children’s Wellness Festival at Fairytale Town. Enjoy FREE admission and free play all day long while Fairytale Town partners with Sutter to celebrate active and healthy lifestyles among kids everywhere. Families can enjoy games, play and puppet shows. The Sacramento Division of Public Health will also be on site offering free immunizations for children under two years of age (bring your child’s immunization record). Saturday, March 25 at Fairytale Town.

Weekend Family Fun

Are you loving this delta breeze?  Take advantage of the warm days and cool nights this weekend by bringing the family out to South Natomas Community Park for an outdoor screening of How to Train your Dragon, or head to Raley Field for a River Cats game.  Into old cars?  Join the California Automobile Museum for its 5th Annual Car Cruise, celebrate Leo’s birthday at the Sacramento Children’s Museum, or enjoy nature along the American River at the Nature Center.  Whatever you choose to do, have a fabulous weekend!

You get to bid on special pink breast cancer awareness jerseys worn by the players during the game in the silent auction to support the fight against breast cancer. Winners will get the game-worn, autographed jersey and a picture with the player or coach who wore it!  Don’t forget about the Friday Fireworks! Bring a group and enjoy the best fireworks show in Northern California all season long.

For our events, it is about participants of all different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes toeing the start line. Whether you are a casual morning mall walker or an Olympic athlete, the 3 miles of The Color Run™ course will be the most enjoyable real estate you’ve traveled in a very long time.

cam_car_cruise-2013_v5_1_category8/3 – 5th Annual California Automobile Museum Car Cruise – The CAM Car Cruise is an annual event for vintage car owners to show off their rides. The Cruise begins at Sac State and ends on Fulton and El Camino in a huge vintage car show. Spectators will be greeted with live music, food trucks, vendor booths, and a beer garden. All cars, trucks, and motorcycles of interest are welcome.

lbb_leo_2013_category8/3 – Leo’s Birthday Bash – Get ready for a night full of birthday celebrations and family fun. Join Sacramento Children’s Museum to celebrate their second birthday.  Activities include: the return of Raceways (one night only), photo booth courtesy of Giggle and Riot, music by Music Matt, face painting by Whimsy, face painting and body art, cupcake walk, carnival games, tasty food, beer and wine available for mom and dad, and of course, Museum play.

picture1_category8/3 – Screen on the Green: How to Train your Dragon – Screen on the Green is a series of free movie screenings shown at various parks in Sacramento brought to by Councilman Steve Cohn and Pops in the Park. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating or a lawn chair for seating, and snacks. A sweatshirt for the cooler evening weather and a flashlight are also recommended.

effie_yeaw_category8/3 – Under the Oaks at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center – Effie Yeaw’s mighty oak trees provide food and shelter for many animals and insects. Learn how to identify different varieties of oak trees in the Nature Preserve and who might be living in them.

festival_italiana_category8/3 – 8/4 – Festa Italiana -2013 will make the 28th anniversary of Festa Italiana. This beautiful Italian community event features delicious Italian food and drink and stellar entertainers. There will be an Italian Marketplace, a children’s games and rides area, bocce ball, Italian cars, motorcycles, and much more entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate Italian heritage. Don’t miss Festa Italiana, Northern California’s Italian community gathering for two days of Italian cuisine, music, dancing, fun, and friendship.

Stamp-a-rama8/3 – 8/4 – Ramblin’ Mars Rover – It has been one year since Curiosity landed on Mars and the Discovery Museum is celebrating this weekend with a Ramblin’ Rover good time! View the life-size Opportunity model in the Space Quest! exhibit. A new planetarium show
debuts with a focus on the Curiosity rover. Learn more about space rovers with special guest, Steven Ainsworth, an official NASA ambassador.

8/4 – Those Wacky Woodpeckers at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center -Woodpeckers are instantly recognizable by their unique behavior of pecking vertically on trees and poles, but how much do you really know about these outstanding birds? We will clue you in.

dingerrivercats_category8/4 – 8/6 – Sacramento River Cats vs. Texas Round Rock Express – Come out to enjoy a great game of baseball as the Sacramento River Cats take on the Texas Round Rock Express.  The Bobblehead Series continues with another bobblehead giveaway for the first 2,500 fans, after fan voting decides one of the three greatest outfielders in River Cats history, #8 Nick Swisher.  Don’t forget to bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark to benefit the Players Wives’ Food Drive Help the River Cats players’ spouses that collect food for those less fortunate.
